Grace looked at George, she felt confused. She was positive she’d misheard. Why would anyone want her? George looked so sad.
“I’d love to come stay with you and Ronnie” Grace turned away and looked out the window “but it’s not fair on you. You’re pregnant; you don’t need the stress of having me around” George smiled, she looked at Grace
“I won’t be stressed by having you around, I’d love to have you around” Grace smiled and wrapped her arms around George’s neck.
“So when can I come?”

Part 12
The next few days where spent preparing for Grace coming to stay with George and Ronnie. With each passing day the little girl got more and more excited, Lissy loved seeing the little girl this way. On the morning when George was due to come and collect her, Grace was floating on air. She had all her stuff packed. Every time the door to her room open, she almost jumped on the person in her excitement. All her doctors had come in to say ‘goodbye’. When George opened the door she was almost flattened by Grace who ran in to her, hugging her tightly.
“Calm down Grace. I have a little errand to attend to before we go home anyway” George smiled mysteriously. Grace looked up at George trying to work out what they were going to do. George picked up Grace’s bag and took hold of the child’s hand. Together they left the room. Grace let go of George’s hand and ran to hug Lissy who was walking towards the nurses’ station. Lissy knelt down and hugged the child. Grace then ran back to George. George led Grace towards the maternity unit, Grace looked even more confused.
A few minutes later, George was sat up on a bed with Grace by her side, the midwife running the scanner over her growing bump. Grace was mesmerized by what was on the screen.
“Would you like to know the sex?” the midwife looked at them, George nodded slightly
“This is to be a secret between you and me ok?” Grace smiled; the midwife moved the scanner back and forth before turning to them again
“Congratulations, it’s a girl” George’s smile broadened. Grace looked just as happy. The midwife printed out a picture for them. Then they left.

ok i'm going to post the last three parts today ;D part 13
On the ride home, Grace was silent; she just stared out of the windows. It had been a long time since she’d been out of the hospital. George pulled the car in to the driveway, and turned to Grace
“Remember Grace, the baby being a girl, is our little secret” Grace grinned broadly; she liked the idea of having a special secret. The two of them climbed out of the car and entered the house. George gently led Grace upstairs, she opened a door and stepped inside, Grace gasped as she looked around. The room was painted in bright pink, the curtains and bedspread matched. Cuddly toys cluttered up the bed, a bunch of dolls were scattered around the floor. George knelt down as best she could
“How do you like your room Grace?” the little girl turned, her little eyes glistening with tears
“I love it. It’s my first real room” Grace hugged George. The two of them left the room and went downstairs, as they had heard the click of the door. Ronnie was stood in the kitchen. He smiled as he saw Grace; he picked her up and swung her around. George laughed as she saw the scene before her. It seemed so natural. Ronnie gently placed Grace down before hugging George.
“how’d the scan go?” Grace giggled softly, George smiled
“everything’s fine. We have a perfect little baby. Y’know we should think about names soon, I like James” poor Grace she could hardly contain her laughter when George said that.

Part 14
The next few weeks flew by. Grace loved every minute of living with George and Ronnie. She became more and more attached to them, she even began calling them mummy and daddy. It felt so natural. George’s pregnancy was progressing normally although she was forever being nagged and fussed over by Ronnie and his little assistant/partner in crime. Ronnie was still nervous and worried about being a father but he couldn’t help but feel so happy when he felt the baby move. the three of them did everything together, from shopping to watching TV, the only time that they weren’t together was when George and Ronnie were at work and even then Grace was usually around. Although it wasn’t really the best idea, Grace sat in reception playing with her toys or reading her books, with Sarah keeping an eye on her at all times. All the staff at The Mill had become attached to the little girl.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Slowly the weeks turned in to months. George had to take leave from work which she didn’t really mind; it meant she could spend more time with Grace. George and Ronnie were sadly beginning to notice that Grace was getting weaker. She no longer had the same amount of energy, she lost all the weight she’d put on and slowly she got sicker. George and Ronnie could hardly bear to watch but they didn’t want to have to send her back to hospital. They couldn’t do that.
Part 15
It was when George was eight-months gone that things got really bad. Grace couldn’t keep any food down and she couldn’t do much walking with out getting tired. Just going downstairs and watching TV with George and Ronnie drained her energy. Every night George tucked Grace up in bed and told her how much she love her and how she always would and every night and every night George would read Grace the same poem “a heart to hate you is as far away as the moon, a heart to love you is as close as the door” Grace would you ‘I’ll always love you mummy’ and then she’d go to sleep. George would then go downstairs and stare at two pictures on the mantelpiece – one a framed photo of the most recent scan and the second a professional photograph of herself, Ronnie and Grace. Then Ronnie would come in and they’d hug and discuss their day. It was a routine they both liked but both of them knew it wouldn’t last for much longer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was late one night, in her dream George could see Grace but when the child turned from her shoulder blades two wings had raisen, both of them white and they looked so soft. George woke quickly; her dream told her what was happening. She shook Ronnie’s shoulder, waking him. The two of them rushed, well Ronnie rushed George walked as fast as she could, in to Grace’s bedroom. The little girl was laid flat in the bed, her eyes wide open, and she was wheezing Ronnie scooped the little girl up in his arms. They made their way out to the car. Together they’d made the decision that when the time came; Grace would be taken in to hospital. Ronnie strapped Grace in to the back and George eased herself in to the passenger seat. On the way she felt the first pain but she ignored it. She had to keep her mind on Grace. When they got to the hospital, they rushed through the corridors; they got to the kids ward quickly. They got inside, Lissy was working. She saw the look on their faces; she led them in to Grace’s old room. Ronnie gently placed the little girl on the bed. George gripped the end of the bed as another pain washed over her.
“George” Grace wheezed, Ronnie turned to his wife he saw the look on her face and knew immediately what was going on. He felt so torn, he didn’t want to leave the child he thought of as his daughter but he knew his wife need to be in maternity. George sat down on the bed
“We can’t leave Grace” George looked at Ronnie pleading. Lissy stood in the doorway, listening and watching.
“I could get a bed brought up here for you George” Ronnie nodded gratefully.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The bed was brought up quickly, George held both Grace’s and Ronnie’s hand. She tried not to squeeze them too hard when the pain came but it was almost impossible. It was thirty minutes later that the baby girl was born. George could hardly believe that she was a mother. The baby girl was wrapped up in a blanket and placed in George’s arms but George quickly helped Grace to hold the baby, George knew that she’d have a life time to hold the baby yet this would be Grace’s only chance. Ronnie walked round to the other side of Grace’s bed, he sat down. Lissy came in holding a digital camera. Ronnie, George and Grace smiled and in her own way so did the baby. Lissy took the photo. Then Grace’s breathing became worse. George took the baby out of Grace’s arms.
“what do you think we should name her Grace?” Grace looked at George and Ronnie for a second and then smiled
“Rebecca” George smiled, and looked down at the baby
“Rebecca Grace Woodson, I like it. well Rebecca Grace meet your older sister Grace” Grace grinned. She could feel herself getting weaker and weaker
“I have to go now, but I’ll look after you Rebecca cos I’ll be your angel. Bye-bye lil sis. Bye-bye mummy, bye-bye daddy. I love you and always will but don’t cry for me cos I don’t want you to cry cos I’m going to get my wings now” and with that her beautiful eyes closed and her breathing grew fainter and fainter until it stopped. Ronnie scooped the little girl up and cradled her.
“bye-bye darling. We’ll never forget you, you got me and George back together. and Rebecca will always know you to”
George and Ronnie didn’t cry not even at the funeral because they knew that wasn’t what Grace wanted. The songs at the funeral where all picked by nurses and doctors on the wards expect one, Amazing Grace. On the mantelpiece in the front room, there were now four pictures – the scan, George Ronnie and Grace, Rebecca on her own and the four of them as a family.
