part 10
Mentally, Ronnie apologised to his daughter. To him Dani was part of a previous life where she was thought of as a mistake, Ella was the present.
“what a beautiful name, for a beautiful little girl” Gabby grinned “look I’m about to go off shift and I know this is a little forward but never mind, would you like me to show you and Ella around?” she gabbled at great speed, as she always did when she was nervous. Ronnie smiled
“That would be really nice. Thank you” he stood up “would you take El for me, while I get changed. I’ll meet you out in reception” Gabby nodded and took Ella out of his arms and carried her out of the room, talking absolute nonsense to her. Ronnie sighed when they left the room. He could help but think he’d mistake, but when the image of his wife slumped in the kitchen came in to his head; he knew that he was right. He changed quickly and left the room, making sure to grab his wallet and Ella’s bag. He found Gabby in the reception, showing Ella everything from the filing cabinets to the computer. He couldn’t help but smile. Gabby looked up at saw him, she walked around the reception desk and passed Ella back to him. The three went in to the car park and Ronnie walked over towards his car
“I may as well drive” he said “given I have her pushchair and car seat” he opened the door and placed Ella in to the seat and strapped her in. before closing the door. He then opened to passenger side for Gabby and then walked around to the drivers’ side where he climbed in.
“Where first?” he asked. Gabby smiled
“May as well go for the town. You’ll need to know where you can get stuff” and so she quickly began reeling of directions which Ronnie followed. Every few minutes, Gabby turned to check on Ella, who was trying to look out of the windows.
”so you married?” Gabby asked, curiously. Ronnie looked startled, and pretended to be concentrating on the road, to hide to tears.
“Separated” he said gruffly.

Part 11
The weeks that passed since Ronnie’s first day in his new home and slowly but surely he began to settle. He was living in a flat, which although being small was perfectly ok for him and Ella. In secret he still occasionally slipped up and called his little girl ‘Danni’ but so far had managed not to when in Gabby’s company. He thought of Leatherbridge often and sometimes found himself wishing he was back there. He’d very nearly gone back as well until he looked at the face of his sleeping daughter, he couldn’t take her back. Not with her mother in the state she had been.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Helen Thompson clicked the internet icon on her computer screen and typed in her password. She did this everyday trying to bring her to e-mail Ronnie. She missed him and Danni. But everyday she signed off without clicking the send button. Again she pressed the write e-mail icon and began to type
To: Loverly_Lawyer@yahoo.co.uk From: Im_not_think_im_blond@yahoo.co.uk Subject: no subject
Ronnie, I hope you and Danni are ok. I am fine; I just wish I could say the same about George. Oh Ronnie, you leaving and taking Danni has absolutely destroyed her. She rarely turns up at work and when she does she reeks of alcohol and ends up getting sent home anyway. Mac is getting really fed up with it, Ronnie, I fear that if she doesn’t buck her idea’s up soon, she’ll be out of the job. I hate to admit it Ronnie, but I’m scared to try and help her. Your house is so different now; the smell as you walk in the door is suffocating. She’s a completely different person. Ronnie, you need to come home. I know you love her and she loves you
Helen
Helen looked at the e-mail and read it over and over. It didn’t seem right. Her moved her mouse, but a scream from Dan’s bedroom made her jump and stopped her from clicking the delete button. She got up from her seat and dashed upstairs to her son’s room. while downstairs, Claire was sitting herself in the desk chair. She moved the mouse on to the send button and clicked, thinking her mum would want to send it before signing off the web to play one of her games. When Helen came down and saw what had happened part of her was relived and the other dreading the reply.
this is only a shortish part but i felt i should update. I'm feeling a bit guility for necglecting my fics a bit recently. anyway i wrote this part to relax me a bit as i'm very worried and stressed - i have my first exam tomorrow and unlike others it's not a mock (i'm taking this one a year early or something)
Part 12
Ronnie read the e-mail over and over again, trying to sort the words out in his mind. Of course he understood them perfectly but right now they seemed totally alien and may as well have been written in gobbledygook. He felt so alone; Gabby had taken Ella out little more than half an hour ago but to him it felt like a million years. Since the incident that had led to their arrival here, he hadn’t been away from his little girl for more than five minutes. Ronnie clicked the send button and stared at the blank e-mail screen, slowly he began to type, and he barely knew what he was typing. He was in a daze and only snapped out of it when he heard the door open and Gabby walked in pushing Ella in her specialized pushchair.
“She really seemed to enjoy the park” Gabby said enthusiastically “and so did I” she added with a laugh. Ronnie snapped down the top of his laptop and walked over to the pushchair and knelt down in front of it
“Did Gabs making a fool out of herself to amuse you El” he said with a wide smile lifting his little girl out of the chair and hugging her close.
”so what were you up to on the pc?” Gabby asked with a curious twinkle in her eyes, something Ronnie had come to notice since they meet.
“Just an e-mail from an old friend” he said, looking away from her face, he kissed Ella’s forehead, Gabby moved so that she was in his line of vision.
“Problems back home?” she asked softly, Ronnie tried to turn away from her again, and Gabby grabbed his face holding it still “I know you don’t like to talk about it, but there’s obviously something”
“an old friend has some problems that she wants my help to sort out, its nothing” but deep down he felt a pang of guilt, and the idea of going back played strong in his mind but he didn’t dare take Ella back, she was far to precious to be put through all that.
i'm sorry i haven't updated my fics in ages. I really have been meaning to but life has been getting in the way. Hopefully now i'm on summer holidays, I'll be updating a bit more regular. again i'm sorry
Part 13
Gabby studied him; she knew he was hiding something from her. The sad, faraway look in his eyes told her he wasn’t really with her and it broke her heart. In the short time she’d known him she’d gotten so attached to him it was unreal. She tried to meet his eyes but she couldn’t, he was staring at something far off in this distance. She wished that she could understand him but he was so evasive when it came to talk about his life but he knew almost everything about her. Slowly she allowed her gaze to wonder from his face, when it reached his hand she gasped. She’d never noticed before, part of his ring finger was lighter, and instantly she understood. In the past she’d gotten in to trouble for jumping to conclusions but this time she knew she’d made no mistake. She took a long, deep breath
“what’s she like?” she asked softly “your wife I mean” his head shot up at this and he nearly jumped out of his seat. He looked at Gabby,
“she, I, how” Ronnie garbled unable to find the words he wanted. He felt so confused, he’d tried so hard to keep her a secret, to keep everything a secret. He’d checked everything but somehow she’d worked it out. He tried to look in to her eyes to read what she was thinking but she was looking away from him now, avoiding his eyes like he’d been doing to her.
“I noticed your finger. Where the ring was is lighter. I’m not an idiot, Ronnie” she turned back to him, and he noticed her lips were trembling, her fist clenched in an attempt to stop the tears from flowing, she didn’t want to let him see. “why didn’t you tell me? Don’t you trust me?” her voice was filled with hurt. He wished he could comfort her but he knew he couldn’t.
“I wanted to forget. I wanted to leave that life, I didn’t want Danni to grow up in that envivoment she’s to precious for that. But now my commitments are calling me and I know I have to go but I can’t send her back to that. Gabby, you’re my best friend here, my only friend. Of course I trust you, I wouldn’t let you take Danni out if I didn’t. but the longer I kept up the lies with you the longer I could kid myself that this was me now and that everything there was my past, a distant dream. Don’t you understand” he took a deep breath, watching the expression on her face change. She went through so many emotions in that short space of time that he was hard pushed to remember what they’d been. He followed her line of vision and realized she was looking at his daughter, smiling.
“you called her Danni” she said softly, her voice still filled with hurt but tinged with sadness. She hated lies, she’d heard far to many already in her life from ‘daddy will always come to visit you’ to ‘honestly I love you and I’ll never look at another women’ but to her this one seemed to be the worst, she was quite sure why. Ronnie gently stroked his daughter’s head. He took a deep breath
“that’s what I used to call her. Using a different name for her was for the same reason I lied to you about everything else. I had to be so careful whenever I spoke to you about her, I was so worried I’d slip up. Danni is what her” he stopped and thought for a second “George called her”
I really am sorry for not updating. I've really been trying to update but I haven't really found much time to do much this summer hol. Anyway I am sorry and I hope that soon i'll have enough time
part 14
Gabby stood up, straightening her t-shirt, she felt so betrayed. She knew that hers and Ronnie’s relationship was purely friendship but it hurt her to think that the entire friendship was built on lies. Part of her wanted to sit back down and talk it all through with him but the other part, the part that was winning, was telling her to go that she’d never be able to trust a word he said. She frowned at the idea, and turned to leave. She could feel Ronnie watching her, she could hear the sound of him standing, changing the position in which he was holding Danni, she hadn’t realized before she could recognized every one of his movements just by sound. She placed her hand on the door knob but turned to face him just before she left, he was looking at her, his eyes were filled with sadness and confusion, she couldn’t bare to look at them, but she knew she couldn’t look at Danni, despite not being a baby person, the little girl had stolen her heart. Instead Gabby stared at a speck of dirt of the wall
“you should go back” she said softly. Her eyes unconsciously moved back to his face, he looked so lost, confused. He shook his head, and motioned towards Danni. Gabby frowned
“you have to go back” she said in a voice that was slightly firmer. She couldn’t believe the words came out of her mouth, the voice was so different, the tone alien but it came from her.
“I can’t” he said, and for the first time since she’d first met him, he looked tired. The months of caring for his daughter alone, the months of worry over the wife he wasn’t sure he loved, the months of anger over the words she’d spoken, the long months had finally caught up with him.
