Jimmi is still living in the fast lane. He wakes with a hangover and calls to a woman whose name escapes him. She has gone and it slowly dawns on him that she has fleeced him. He arrives very late for work and bedraggled.
George is at home driving the rest of them crazy with her constant calls to the surgery with updates on her blood pressure. She is very bored.
Greg gets a call from the station to say they’ve made a break-through; the blood test from previous cases both show up the same drug, but it’s something they don’t recognise. They are keen to encourage any other victims to come forward…
Meanwhile, Arnie is a 40 year old builder, he is also diabetic. His girlfriend Jo is keen for them to move in together. Arnie wants to do more with his life and money is a bit tight but he is struggling to hide his illiteracy and is embarrassed, especially as Jo is a teacher. They met when Arnie was in prison and Jo was a prison visitor; Arnie sent Jo amazing letters and she fell for him.
It’s Jo’s birthday and Arnie is desperately trying to write her card; he decides to fake a wrist injury to cover himself.
Things come to breaking point when a ring goes missing from Jo’s jewellery box and she accuses Arnie of stealing it.
Arnie realises he has to tell Jo the truth and turns up in her class to do his best handwriting on her blackboard. Jo is confused because of the letters, and he explains that the prison chaplain was his scribe. Arnie gives Jo his mother’s ring which he has resized for her, that’s why he borrowed her ring.

George is infuriated by Ronnie's over protective nature as he pesters her over breakfast; George is to stay at home and rest today, but George holds back her frustrations, until Ronnie leaves, and George heads off to the Centre.
Jimmi rolls into the centre looking like death after a night out. Sarah's disapproving comments do not help. Jimmi has not seen Greg yet. George makes Sarah a cuppa and suggests that Sarah considers volunteering for literacy classes. Sarah is pleased George thinks that she is up to it.
Sarah slyly engineers Greg calling in on Jimmi, and smiles to herself as Greg heads off to his room. Jimmi is embarrassed he can't remember much about their drinking session, or the woman he picked up, which puzzles Greg. Jimmi admits that he woke to find his belongings stolen. Greg is very concerned, and suggests that Jimmi was unknowingly drugged and robbed, perhaps the victim of a current predator locally.
George hides from Ronnie at the Centre, aghast that he may chastise her for coming into work. Helen covers for George, but can't resist making her feel guilty for lying to Ronnie. George heads off home but is seen by Ronnie.
Greg supports Jimmi reporting his robbery at the Police station, although Jimmi is hesitating to admit what happened and admit he is a victim.
Ronnie is disappointed that George is not resting, but George tells him that he is simply too over protective of her.
Jimmi is crestfallen when DI Baxter confirms that Jimmi has traces of drugs in his system, and his description of the woman he picked up matches the other victim’s.
Meanwhile, Sam Hardcastle, tv celebrity archaeologist, and Professor Sandra Miler, document an archaeological site before it is bulldozed. Sandra is unwell, but time is precious, and she will not see a Doctor until the work is done.
Sandra's husband, James Miller, is concerned by Sandra's ailment, and his wife's attraction to Sam, and asks Helen to see Sandra on site. Helen agrees, partly because she is keen to meet Sam Hardcastle. Sandra has had numerous untreated chest infections, which has left her susceptible to pleurisy or pneumonia, and Helen prescribes antibiotics. Sandra and James become closer, when she realises how much James cares, and how little Sam considers others.
