Mac and Julia have had Ciaran stay overnight while Kate stayed at Faith’s. In the morning, Julia phones Kate and offers to look after Ciaran until lunch when Mac will be free to take him out, after which they can do a handover back to Kate at the surgery.
Meanwhile, Greg pops into Faith’s room to ask about Kate’s arrangement with them for lunch, he fails to spot her studying a phone book for optician’s numbers. After he leaves Faith picks up the phone to book an appointment. Greg then bumps into Mac in the corridor he asks if he’s coming for lunch with Kate, Mac is awkward, feeling the pressure of having Kate around Julia and the surgery.
Later that afternoon, Mac finds Kate in the staff room waiting for Greg and the others. He tells her how awkward he is feeling about the whole situation but they are soon interrupted by the arrival of Julia and Ciaran. Mac takes Ciaran to the park to play football while Kate joins Greg, George, Ronnie and Bracken in the Icon Bar for lunch. They chat about children and Rico.
At the same time Faith approaches an opticians but chickens out before going in. Back at the surgery she tests her eyes against the eye chart – she gets it right which confuses her. But then suddenly she knocks into a trolley and knocks some glassware flying – she doesn’t understand how she didn’t see it? As she starts to clear it up, Nick enters and Faith tells him that she thinks she needs glasses. Nick offers to examine her eyes but before he can do so they are interrupted by Donna asking for Nick to take a phone call.
After lunch Mac arrives back to the surgery with Ciaran. He finds Kate in Julia’s office – they have just discovered that Kate and Ciaran’s flight has been cancelled due to fog at Dublin Airport. Much to Mac’s horror, Julia kindly invites Kate to stay with them overnight and Kate awkwardly accepts!
That night Kate and Mac tuck Ciaran into bed together. After dinner Kate says goodnight and Julia asks Mac whether he’s feeling awkward about having Kate stay – Mac insists he isn’t. At 2am Mac wakes with a headache and goes downstairs, he glances at the spare room on the way, but when he enters the kitchen he finds Kate there having a drink. Neither of them could sleep. Mac tries to explain his feelings of awkwardness to Kate, she is very astute and realises that it’s because as long as she was in Ireland, he could keep her and Julia in 2 separate boxes – and now he’s realised that he’s actually having an affair. He was looking forward to her visit but now he can’t handle it. What are they going to do? Mac leans in and kisses her passionately.
Meanwhile, Jimmi has had a call from an old school friend and they’ve planned a hiking trip today - just like they used to do when they were kids in Cardiff. He pops into the surgery to grab his all-weather coat and chats to Greg who registers Jimmi’s determination to get away from the surgery.
Jimmi arrives at a country pub and finds Dave Perrin (29) at the bar. Dave is a CID officer in Cardiff. Their first meeting is awkward – it’s been 10 years! But eventually they relax and start drinking and chatting. Dave observes Jimmi’s determination to put work behind him, but not before having a bit of a moan about his life. Meanwhile Jimmi fails to notice Dave’s over-insistence that everything in his marriage to Sandra is going well.
As they continue their hike they come across 2 lads carrying their mate down the hillside – he has an injured ankle and it is Dave and not Jimmi who goes to help. Afterwards Dave has a go at Jimmi – he’s so determined to get away from doctoring that he’s failing to help people who clearly need it – this leads to a further tirade about the breakdown of their friendship after Jimmi met Amanda. Dave needed him and needs him now. Finally Jimmi sees that there is more going on with Dave than he had imagined and his doctoring kicks in just in time. Dave explains that his marriage has been falling apart since he got so busy at work – and to top it all off he’s now having problems with his ‘waterworks’. After he hears Dave’s symptoms, Jimmi is forced to reveal that it sounds like he has NSU, non-specific urethritis – a sexually transmitted infection. Dave realises what this means since he knows he has always been faithful.
Back at the pub, Jimmi tells Dave that he has to go to a GUM clinic to get checked out and confirm the diagnosis. Dave insists that he still loves Sandra, but worries that it’s too late he’s lost her - Jimmi encourages him to try and save his marriage – he should fight for her if he loves her. Dave thanks Jimmi for his help and they both agree that they should keep in better touch for the future. Jimmi realises that being a doctor is in his nature and no matter what he can’t switch it off.

Kate comes into the kitchen and is reminded of her encounter with Mac the night before. She is joined by Julia who is being a gracious host and chatting away, happens to mention about how well things are going between her and Mac at the moment. Kate is feeling guilty and awkward. Julia asks after Mike and is surprised to discover that he and Kate broke up a few months ago – Julia offers her condolences and an ear if Kate needs to talk to anyone. Mac meanwhile has overheard the conversation from the hallway – ouch.
As Julia and Mac leave for work Julia comments to Mac about how it must be difficult for Kate – being abandoned at her age! Mac has to explain that the reason he didn’t tell her was because he forgot – but anyway, it’s none of their business!
At the surgery, George arrives and starts handing out invitations to Bracken’s Naming Ceremony. Greg and Jimmi tease her about middle name choices – Bramble, Moss, Leafmold? And then Donna lets the cat out of the bag – Faith told her it would be Sunrise. George leaves – she is not amused. Later that morning Donna shows more of an interest in the ceremony but inadvertently puts her foot in it when she describes George’s plans as ‘a party for all your mates’. Nothing like the traditional christenings of religions such as Hinduism. George stomps off but not before whipping Donna’s invite out of her hands! A while later Donna finds George and apologises for being insensitive. George apologises for being childish too and explains about how important the ceremony is to her, after all of the stresses with Bracken’s birth etc.
Later that afternoon Kate arrives at the surgery to say goodbye to everyone, Ciaran has also misplaced his pterodactyl and they think it might be here. Julia kindly offers Mac’s services as taxi to the airport. Kate and Mac snatch a moment while Donna helps Ciaran look for his toy. Kate tells Mac that she is feeling guilty about Julia, she’s being so nice and Kate just feels sordid. Mac however has made his mind up, he asks Kate if she will go away with him for a weekend. Kate is tempted but unsure… and finally she kisses him… passionately…and just as Donna and Ciaran have decided to see whether the pterodactyl has flown into daddy’s room… they know it’s wrong but they can’t help themselves… one last kiss… and then the door opens and Donna sees them… oh my God!
Meanwhile, Andy Wilkins has been unable to sleep and wakes early – he is found by his wife Marcie, sitting on the stairs. Today’s the day they exchange on the sale of their house and Marcie has to work hard to try and convince Andy that it won’t go wrong this time. Later that morning Andy takes a look at the house next door – the garden is overgrown and full of rubbish - the whole house looks a state. Andy starts hammering on the neighbour’s door and Marcie has to drag him back inside.
Ronnie arrives at work and is surprised to find Andy waiting for him, eager to check that everything is going okay. Ronnie reassures him that at this stage they’re just waiting for the paperwork and there’s not much else they can do – sensing Andy’s agitation he offers him a cup of tea and a chat. Afterwards he tells him to go home and relax.
Andy arrives home and is pleasantly surprised to find the neighbour’s garden is now clean and tidy. He enters the house and apologises to Marcie for all of his stress and worrying – it looks like things will all be fine – but then suddenly loud music is heard through the wall. Trying to ignore it Andy sits in the kitchen with the papers – but then he notices smoke filling the back garden. He charges outside and finds rubbish burning in the neighbour’s garden – Andy storms round to the front of the house and bangs on the door. It is opened by Gary Muir – the neighbour from hell. Andy reminds Gary that they had an agreement – not trouble until it was all over. But Gary tells him that if he wants him to be good until completion then he’ll have to pay him more money – he shuts the door on a furious Andy. Meanwhile Marcie takes a call from Ronnie who has discovered that there’s a slight problem with the paperwork that will delay the exchange. Marcie expresses her worries over Andy’s reaction and Ronnie offers to visit and explain it to him in person.
When Ronnie arrives he finds Andy hammering on Gary’s door and he quickly has to step in to stop Andy from punching Gary – he drags him away as Gary cockily tells him that Ronnie has witnessed an on-going feud – bet he didn’t put that down on his mortgage forms! Inside the house Ronnie quizzes Marcie while Andy goes for a cigarette. She explains everything – how when they were set to buy this house they did all of the right things – visiting at night to check the noise levels etc – the previous owners told them about how happy they had been in the house, what a good area etc – but then once they moved in they met Gary. Turns out that the previous owners had paid him to go away while they tried to sell the house. Ronnie is appalled while Marcie is a little more understanding – she knows how they felt. Marcie has to admit that they have also paid Gary to be good, but now he’s asking for more money. Andy is at the end of his tether and she’s worried that he’ll do something stupid. Andy comes back in just as Ronnie is forced to tell them that he cannot let the exchange go ahead based on this information – they have lied to the buyers. Instead he offers to speak to Gary, but it falls on deaf ears.
Ronnie accuses Gary of extortion and warns him that it’s a pretty serious offence. Gary is undeterred and cockily dares them to go to the Police if they have any evidence. But it’s his council house as it was his step-dads before him. They’re not getting rid of him that easily! Ronnie walks away but phones a friend in the Housing Department.
Back in the rear gardens of the houses, Gary taunts Andy with the future they will have as neighbours. Pushed to the limit Andy nearly attacks Gary with a spade. Marcie has to calm him down and call him back inside. Andy has a go at Marcie, he’s at a real low now. Ronnie arrives back and with relief tells the couple that Gary has no right to be living in the property – the council still have his dead step-father as tenant and so Gary will be evicted when they find out. It might take some time but he will be evicted – and so they can stay in their dream house after all.
