'Something I Ate'
Airs Monday, April 3 2006 at 13:05 UTC on BBC One
Julia gets Mac to have a word with Elizabeth and make sure their relationship won't affect work. Elizabeth is furious when she overhears Nick relaying details of their weekend in Prague to colleagues. She eventually agrees to go for a drink with him and Nick tries to make her open up to him about why she's so defensive, but Elizabeth points out they both have secrets that they don't want to talk about.
Greg is unhappy that Rico's visa has run out, although he won't tell anyone what is wrong.
Greg is called to the station to certify a death in the cells, and is introduced to two probationer PCs, Danny and Jason, who are being mentored by WPC Michelle Young. There has been a thief in the station and all the officers are suspects, especially Danny who is disliked by everyone (Jason was a suspect until he too had his wallet stolen). When Greg finds Danny being sick on two occasions, he tries to get him to talk, but although he admits to being stressed, Danny storms out when he realises Greg too thinks he could be guilty.
When the lockers are searched, and his locker is found to be full of bags of food, Danny faints. Later, Greg finds Danny in his car eating, and realises Danny is bulimic as a result of the stress of the job and family expectations. As Greg and Danny go back inside, they see Jason returning with a bag he earlier removed from his locker. The bag is searched and Jason is revealed to have been the thief all along.

Mac can't attend a conference with Elizabeth due to illness, so Julia is forced to send Nick instead, despite her worry that their personal life could cause problems. At the conference, Nick and Elizabeth decide to skive off the lectures in favour of the bar, and finally Nick gets Elizabeth to start talking about herself. She admits to cheating on her husband, causing him to have a nervous breakdown, and confesses that she knows she is an evil and cold person. When Nick disagrees, she becomes hostile again, causing Nick to walk out. It looks like Elizabeth has finally succeeded in pushing him away, but then Nick returns having booked them into a room at the hotel. They spend the rest of the afternoon having illicit sex.
Ronnie visits a still grumpy Greg to go through a case, but Greg uses the opportunity to ask Ronnie if there's anything he can do about Rico's visa running out. When Ronnie says it's unlikely, Greg makes a decision - he'll move to Brazil to be with him.
Meanwhile, Aid worker Angie has just returned from a 9 month placement and can't stop criticising her mum and sister's home life by preaching about the suffering she has seen, despite the fact that the conversation upsets them. When Angie receives a call from her agency asking her to go back for a new crisis project, they try to persuade her to stay, but Angie admits to old friend Faith that she doesn't know if she can live without the work anymore. She wants to settle down at home, but the work has been so intensive that she doesn't know how to make relationships anymore and feels that she would be letting down all the children who need her help.
Faith suggests she find work as a nurse in Letherbridge, pointing out that children in UK deserve to be treated as much as those in 3rd world countries. Angie agrees to think about it, but it is only when her nephew chokes and Angie manages to save his life by performing an emergency tracheotomy that she realises Faith is right. She turns down the agency to stay in Letherbridge and try to rebuild a relationship with her family.

Juliet is a dowdy mouse at work during the day, though, till recently, was a highly valued, hardworking administrative employee. However, by night, she dresses as Marilyn Monroe and takes part in singing contests. She is a talented singer but can only pull off a performance when she has the prop of her Marilyn get-up.
Her night-time activities are leaving her tired and useless during the day and she is prone to falling asleep at her desk and making silly mistakes. Her boss is sympathetic but reluctantly issues her with an ultimatum on behalf of the senior management.
Juliet sees Jimmi and asks him for a pick-me-up but Jimmi is more interested in treating the cause than the symptoms. Whilst at the surgery she befriends Sarah who encourages her to go on stage as herself and carry her confidence through to other areas of her life. Finally she persuades Juliet to ask her boss, on whom she has had a crush for ages, on a date.
Jimmi also sees a transvestite biker who is having problems with ill-fitting shoes. Jimmi puts him in touch with a specialist transvestite shoe store that he finds on the internet.

Elizabeth visits Mac who is still off work with flu, and recommends he get vaccinated. She brings up the question of partnership again and Mac agrees to talk to Greg.
Nick and Elizabeth are caught out when their stories about the conference don't match. Nick tells an unimpressed Elizabeth that he is in love with her.
Greg suggests to Rico that he move to Brazil with him, but Rico knows that he can't let Greg give up his career and friends. It looks like they might have no choice but to break up. Ronnie confirms that there is no way to extend the visa, but says there is another alternative...
Meanwhile, Simon Tyson shows Nick a video he has taken on his mobile phone, showing proof of a care worker causing neglect in his mother's care home. He asks Nick to persuade his mother to leave the home. When Nick suggests an alternative home, Simon says that Annie should be moved to a hospital, as he is still worried she has suffered strokes. Nick insists he found no evidence when he examined her, but when Simon lists some new symptoms, it's clear he's worried he might have missed something. He examines Annie again, asking Elizabeth for a 2nd opinion.
Simon's girlfriend Rachel grows suspicious about his constant absence from the house and goes through his computer. After finding evidence that Simon is having an affair, she calls Nick to the house and we realise she played the care worker in the video. She admits she and Simon faked the video in an attempt to get Annie out of the home and save Simon's inheritance. Confronted, Simon confesses to giving Annie Rachel's diet pills as a plan B to get her out of the home.

Greg is in a weird mood, restless, snappy, not thinking straight, making secretive phone calls. He has a plan, and after work, he sets up a romantic situation, gets down on one knee and proposes to Rico. Rico is stunned and doesn’t understand, so Greg explains about the new partnership laws and what it could mean to them. He asks him again. Rico says yes.
Elizabeth is in a bad mood. She checks her diary a couple of times in between patients. Then has a horrible thought. Later she breezes into Faith’s room for a pregnancy test, pretending it’s for a patient. She takes the test, hoping the worst isn’t going to happen. It does.
Meanwhile, Nick and Faith help a family who are finding it difficult to accept that their daughter’s leukaemia has returned. The mother is losing her hair as a result of stress.
