Has anyone been watching it? It's been a very good series so far. Just goes to show what does go on all over the country without us realising.

yes i agree, it's really shocking as we don't expect to see things like poverty in this country and we are all quite naive about it, but it's lovely to see the peoples faces when they are given the cheques

it's really shocking as we don't expect to see things like poverty in this country and we are all quite naive about it I obviously don't have the same view of England as you do. What shocks me is the number of bank cards people have (I personally have and always have had only one, which is more than enough) and still they can't pay £5 ! I see that at the very least once a day. You can't imagine the number of people who say they can't afford a car or fuel but then buy overpriced sandwiches, cigarettes, alcohol...etc every single day ! That's such a mismanagement of funds. One line in an episode of Docs shocked me. A lady asked her fellow worker: "where will you find £200?" Even with a crappy job like mine, I can save money every month and I have more than £200 in my bank account. I find it shocking that a lot of people don't have enough common sense to save money. They just don't care about their money, whether they have loads of it or not. So no, a certain degree of poverty in this country does not really come as a surprise.

I agree with you Lemonpig (yet again we're on the same wavelength). "mismanagement of funds" is exactly right. I know there are people who struggle and don't waste money, but I know lots of people who fritter it all away & never think to save for anything, then when they want a holiday or clothes etc, just use their credit cards. Saving is hard - I could save more if I spent less on food - but rewarding.
On the subject of 'Secret Millionaire', I agree it does show an almost secret section of society, helped by people giving their time for no financial reward, who never seem to reach the media as they aren't deemed exciting enough.

I do like the show although I have noticed that a lot of the millionaires were from poor backgrounds themselves.
