This is such sad news. He was an incredibly talented director. One of his last projects, a 90 minute adaptation of The No 1 Ladies detective Agency, will be shown on BBC this Easter, & I'm sure it will be a fantastic & faithful adaptation of the first of a wonderful series of books. A series of Tv drama's adapted by other books in the series was planned, but whether that will now go ahead without Mighella, I have no idea. I really do feel very sad that he has died.

It is sad news - 54 is no great age. Sounds like you're a fan of the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency books Babyduck - I've read them all and love them. I wonder if the film on Sunday will be shown in his memory?

I've never really read that series of books but I had to write about of the authors other books for my GCSE exam. I didn't really enjoy that text passage all that much but I may watch this film on Sunday just to see what it's like.
54 is a really young age.

I love all Alexander McCall Smith's books, though the Sunday Philosophy Club series are a bit less enjoyable than the rest. My husband doesn't like the sound of any of them (he dismisses most of what I read as Chick-lit!!) but I'm hoping after he sees the No 1 Ladies on TV he'll change his mind. And yes, 54 is far too young ( it's only a wee bit older than me, & I hope I'll be around for years & years)
