thanks, daisy, now i'm almost convinced i know the epi. i think we talk about the epi when mentaly unstable val locked herself in her room imagining things like that a great pruducer had asked her to work with him on the west end....
this epi ends when val sits on the floor, tears running from her eyes, with her back leaning on the locked door and sings "you'll never walk alone".
it took me some time to remember cause i was looking for an epi with helen in its centre (had her breakdown on my mind) as the picture next to this item on the bbc site was of helen.... maybe it was to confuse us...
love xxx i

I found the synop for the ep:
Val is taken into care following her actions at the Woodson household. Meanwhile, Ronnie and George are left to comfort Caitlin and Julia tells Faith of her desire to take on new challenges.

and this is the one from the BBC site
The social worker and psychiatrist arrive to see Val. She finally lets them into the room. They all decide that she should go to the psychiatric ward to be further assessed. Caitlin is worried that she will have to leave but George says she can stay.
it aired 18th Feb 2005

Can I add that the title is indeed taken from the song You'll Never Walk Alone, but the song originally came from the musical Carousel.

You're welcome Daisy. Musicals are a bit of a speciality of mine - that's the only reason I know!!
