i have been wondering.
a lot of characters came and went during the past 5 and something years of "Doctors". some were replaceable, others not.
so, now that Helen, one of the originals, is gone, how do you find watching doctors. is it the same, or are you feeling you've lost interest?
i'm asking because i had already had periods when i'd lost interest in the show.
the first time was after David and Carolina died and Ollie left. i felt so upset by the twist in the storyline, that i didn't even think of giving a chance to Greg, now one of my favourites. when i returned to watch, Kate and Jude were gone too, so i watched unwillingly, just to pass the time, but didn't get involved at the story at all.
i think the time i started to be interested again was when Jack started to show his interest in Helen.
now it seems i've lost interest again. i can't even make myself read the daily discussions about the new epis. here in Israel Helen is still at The Mill, but i can calculate the date of her leaving, and somehow it's not fun anymore.
i'd really like to read your opinion on this issue. how do you all find the leaving of the characters you like: is the show bigger than its characters, or does a character make the show?

I think (if i'm totally honest) if George left i would probably give up watching. and the other character leaving (can't say here cos of spoiler asspect) will probably upset me for a little while.
and admittedly i was a little annoyed at Tasha leaving (surprise surprise) but i'm not if that was because she'd gone or because of how she went.
the leaving of Helen has been a little odd - but the blow has been softened slightly by the constant mentioning of her. Helen will never truely leave. other past characters rarely get a mention but with Helen, i think she'll alway be mentioned. and plus she's still in the main cast photo.

Must agree with Kat. If George and Ronnie went out of the programme I think I would lose interest and probably just watch occasionally.

If all George, Ronnie and Sarah went out in a short space of time without me having any liking for the others, I would give it up.
But saying that, at first I didn't like Elizabeth, but I'm beginning to warm to her. She may not have much of a heart, but there's something about her that I like. Maybe her frostiness is a reminder of Helen, but without the warmth. I think maybe they're trying to replace the frosty side of Helen with a character who doesn't, at the moment, have the ability to have the warmer, kinder side as well. That's just what I think.

;)Elizabeth is certainly no substitute for Helen there,s the same business-like frostiness in the two characters but Helen also had a fun side which came out especially after a drink or two which gave her a child-like , fun quality, which so far Elizabeth hasn,t shown yet. Please come back Helen.
