Hey!
I haven't done a fic in literally forever and i felt like writing a new one!
This will probably be quite short, but it's about the aftermath of the fire.
Hope you enjoy it despite the sad subject
Chapter 1:
Mrs Tembe watched in horror as Freya and Kevin were put into intensive care. They're burnt arms and sooty faces alarmed her, and she watched helplessly as doctors crowded around them and tried to save them both. Then one thing - the one thing she didn't want to hear - A flatline.
Karen was at reception at The Mill, answering the phone and sorting out paperwork as usual. Luckily, Mrs Tembe was due back, and soon her shift would be over. She looked across, into the staffroom, where Zara was sitting with Joe on her lap, reading him a story. Karen remembered when Jack and Immie were Joe's age, and how great it was - despite having no sleep whatsoever as they were up most of the night crying. Zara had changed so much since having Joe, but at the same time still had a level of bitchiness about her - something that Karen sort of liked - she couldn't imagine Zara without her bitchiness! Karen was distracted by the door opening, and looked in horror at the dishevelled woman that walked in.
"Mrs Tembe?" Karen asked, as a shaking Mrs Tembe stood infront of her. Mrs Tembe said nothing, she was clearly in a state of shock. Karen put her arm around Mrs Tembe, and directed her to the staff room, sitting Mrs Tembe down on a chair and putting the kettle on, in order to make Mrs Tembe a mug of her favourite red bush. Mrs Tembe sat in silence.
"Mrs Tembe, what's wrong?" Zara asked. Mrs Tembe sat in silence and shook her head. Zara looked at Karen worriedly - neither of them could work out what was wrong. Daniel walked in at this moment, and sat down next to Zara. "Something wrong?" Daniel asked.
"She is gone." Mrs Tembe said, so quite it was barely a whisper.
"Who, Mrs Tembe, who's gone?" Zara asked, looking at Daniel worriedly.
Mrs Tembe tried to speak, but she couldn't say it. "F....F...Fr...Freya."
Daniel looked at Zara and Karen. "Yes, she is, Mrs Tembe, she resigned. She's not coming back here, unfortunately, but you know, i'm sure she'll come down the icon or so-"
"NO. I don't mean like that," Mrs Tembe said, "I mean she... she... Freya is dead." Mrs Tembe started to cry, putting her head on the desk.
"What?!" Karen said. "No, she can't be, she isn't, no, Freya's not dead."
"She is, she is!" Mrs Tembe sobbed, " I was at the hospital... they brought in Freya and Kevin... House fire, they said. They were next to each other, they were alive, and then Freya flatlined and died..."
Zara looked at Daniel, who clearly was still trying to comprehend what Mrs Tembe had just said. Daniel looked at Zara, who held on to Joe and burst into tears. Daniel put his arms round her and Joe, trying to comfort Zara the best he could. Karen stood there. The kettle clicked, to tell them that the water was ready, but noone in the room even registered this, not even Joe. Joe didn't understand what was going on, but he knew it wasn't good - his mummy was crying after all. The whole room just sat there in silence, trying to take in what they'd just found out.
Daniel broke the silence. "What... what are we going to tell Mandy?"
