hello everyone!
this post defines the rules for writers and readers on the whole fanfiction section. some of the rules are obvious, some are unique to our board and some are the written version of unwritten rules that have guided us in this forum since the beginning. in any case of an unclear rule, post your question here and we'll either reply to your question, or modify the rule in question - if needed.
the fanfiction section is made of three sub-sections. the doctors fanfiction, the general fanfiction and the fanfiction's feedback - these rules should apply to all three sections.
RULES FOR FICTION WRITERS
When starting a fiction
1. start your new fiction in a new thread in the relevant section (either doctors or general).
2. use the standard message icon when you start.
3. use only language that you believe is suitable for all, we don't force here "political correctness" but bear in mind we have all ages, religions and types of members, and we don't want anybody to be offended by anything published here. we recommend that you run a spell check too, or use "preview" to proof-read before posting, to avoid embarrassing mistakes.
4. add your fiction to the list in the index at the top of the section. add a short brief of your fiction. if you can add the hyperlink - good. if not, the admin can do it for you. ask for help.
5. VERY IMPORTANT: add the names of the characters you make up to the disclaimer at the top of the section. it is to protect you and the board from potential copyright violation claim.
when adding new parts
6. post all instalments as replies to the same topic - your fiction.
7. when you finish your fiction go back to the first part, and change the message icon to the cheesy face ( ). it can be done by pressing "modify" at the top right hand corner. this will indicate a finished fanfiction.
8. if you feel you would like to take a break from writing, for any reason, and you know there won't be new instalments to your fic in the near future, please change at the first post, again, by modifying the message icon to the lamp sign. this will indicate you need time to think about it, and the viewers will know not to wait. change back when you're ready to continue.
9. if you feel stuck with your fiction and would like to get help from other writers, modify the first part's message icon to the question mark. some interesting twists to your story can come along and revive your muse! of course you can change it back any time you feel like it. the story is yours! you can ask to delete a reply you don't like - contact the moderator.
10. the gentlemen rule: respect other writers. if someone has just posted before you, wait a little while. we respect other writers by not posting on the same day that somebody else posts. when we have more than 7 active writers that want to post in a week, we'll change this rule, but until then - be considerate.
RULES FOR FICTION READERS AND FEEDBACK WRITERS
11. bear in mind we are not professional writers and we write fanfiction just for fun. don't expect the stories to be logical, we have all sorts, enjoy them.
12. post your feedback. the writers would really like to know what you think - feedback is important. but - there are two limitations to this:
+++ don't post negative feedback, if you don't like something - avoid referring to it. focus on the things you liked in the story. we're here to enjoy.
+++ don't post suggestions to the next part, the writers know best how they want to develop their stories. if they want to be assisted they'll put the question mark icon.
13. if you want to ask the writer anything or suggest anything that can be considered as one of the above two, pm the writer in private. we care to know what you think, but not in public.
14. all feedback to a certain story should be on the same thread. new thread - new story. if the story you want to feedback doesn't have a feedback thread yet - start one!
15. if you are a reader or a writer and see the question mark's icon beside somebody else's story - feel free to add the next part yourself. you may find it so easy that you'd like to start a fic of your own - welcome!
and of course the most important rule
16. HAVE FUN!!
