George and Ronnie visit nurseries, but George has serious reservations as she tries to hide her fears over being separated from Bracken, and her guilt at passing her onto strangers.
Eventually, they find a nursery she can live with - because they use 'nursery cam', a system which allows parents to watch their children over the net.
Joe tries to talk to Emily, but doesn't get very far, and starts worrying again when Emily gets a text he suspects is from Nick.
Jimmi tries to distract himself all day, but can't settle - he finally phones his Dad to arrange another meeting, but on his terms.
Meanwhile, 14 year old Alison is happy to get the day off sick, but fed up when her Mum insists she can't take the day off work to look after her. Gillian gets Donna, who is on a day off, to pop in and check on her instead.
Donna finds the defensive Alison hard work, but feels sorry for the weak and ill child, especially when she notices her scratching her arms. She gives Alison some emollient cream to soothe the itching, and leaves her to rest.
Alone, Alison gets a call from her mum to say Gillian is going to be held up at work. Upset, she sprays perfume on her arms.
In town, Donna is shocked to see Alison seemingly quite well and shopping. She confronts her as Alison sprays more perfume on herself, but Alison runs off.
Donna catches up with her at home, and Alison admits it all started when her Mum went back to work and she started using her perfume as a comforter. The perfume caused an allergic reaction, and her mum took her to the doctors, but when the cream they gave her cured the rash, everything went back to normal. So Alison kept using the perfume to bring the rash back, to get attention from her mum.
Donna talks to Alison about self harming, saying she can get Alison help, but insisting they need to tell Gillian. Alison is worried about how her mum will react, but agrees, and we see her resisting the urge to use the perfume again as Gillian returns home and embraces her daughter.
