The Staff stand in reception discussing the new partner. Michelle and Nick gossip. Michelle wants to find out more about Joe. Michelle boasts about her ability to charm information out of people and they discuss a wager.
Emily is in the Fenton house unpacking in the living room, the house is in chaos and much to her irritation she is interrupted by a phone call from Joe. Joe is ringing to see how the unpacking is going and to let her know when the washing machine is being delivered, he gets distracted and rings off.
Donna is fixing Joes computer in the consulting room, Greg comes in to see how things are – Joe is trying to find info about Anne-Marie. Michelle tries to pry information from Joe and harasses him until he agrees to join them at the bar. Emily is frustrated; the wrong tumble dryer has been delivered, she makes a call. Greg and Julia discuss whether Joe has started working too soon.
In reception Donna receives a call from Anne and Joe rushes out to help her at her house. Emily comes to the surgery to tell Joe about the machine but it’s a bad time, Donna spies on them and misconstrues the affection. Michelle and Donna gossip about Joe, the staff agree on meeting for drinks. Emily’s short circuits the electricity.
The staff are gossiping but Nick confirms that the woman with Joe was his daughter. The staff wait at the bar – Joe is late – he gets a call from Emily and has to rush home. He arrives home and the lights are on, Emily is upset and calls her mum to come and get her.
Meanwhile, Anne Marie has just received the news from Dr. Joe Fenton that she is pregnant; this is not welcomed news because Anne’s husband doesn’t want children and they don’t communicate well so she is worried telling him.
Anne discusses keeping the news from her husband as he doesn’t think they’d make good parents- she considers a secret abortion. Eventually Anne decides to keep the baby and hopes her husband will be happy, Joe pursues her, offering help which she declines. Roy waits outside the surgery and receives a phone call, after a brief conversation about a woman (turns out to be about Anne’s husband enquiring after her) the caller hangs up, Roy appears concerned.
Anne and Roy are walking down the high street discussing the pregnancy and Anne’s situation with her husband; Roy reveals he treats her badly but she insists she loves him and that he cares for her deeply and that his behaviour is irrelevant. Anne approaches Colin in the kitchen, she wants to discuss the baby, and Colin moans about work, they have an awkward conversation, tension mounts and the conversation erupts in a fight, Colin snaps and launches at Anne.
Joe arrives to help and examines Anne and calls and ambulance, her injuries are severe- she lies about how they happened. At the hospital it is revealed Anne has had a miscarriage, she wants to hide it from Colin, and Joe accuses Colin. Roy comes to visit Anne and supports Joe’s accusation.
Roy and Colin fight, it is revealed that their Dad abused their Mum as well. Anne defends Colin once again, this time to Joe. They argue in the hospital and Anne reveals the miscarriage to Colin.
'Holding The Baby'
Airs Tuesday, September 5 2006 at 14:05 BST on BBC One
Joe has found a notebook behind the cabinet, Julia seems agitated says it’s Dr McGuire and he can throw it away.
The staff chat and Michelle tells Joe about Mac cheating on Julia. Joe and Julia get to know each other a little better as they talk about previous partners.
The surgery is open longer than usual and Joe sees his last few patients, Donna observes how much they warm to him. George and Joe discuss Travis’ case; they decide Travis’ symptoms could be Couvade, a mimicking his wife’s symptoms of pregnancy in sympathy for them.
In reception Jimmi is at a loose end and Jimmi’s sister rings. Jimmi speaks to his sister on the phone, they arrange lunch.
Meanwhile, Lila has a strange feeling in her stomach; it’s her baby moving, she goes to tell Travis. Travis is ill but needs to work so Lila doesn’t make him a hospital appointment. Lila’s check up goes well but George inadvertently upsets her; she reveals that’s since she has become pregnant their relationship has gone downhill. Lila is also worried about Travis getting ill from working too hard, George agrees to pop round and visit Travis.
Lila gets home, they argue about items for the baby. Lila tells Travis about the residential course and then about the doctors visit. George comes round and Travis finally opens up, he agrees to come into the surgery. Lila and Travis argue about buying things for the baby, Travis explains their money situation and Lila grows suspicious, Travis finally tells her he’s lost his job.
George comes back to the Chambers house to give Travis his diagnosis to see Lila packing her things in the car. They listen to the diagnosis in disbelief, they make peace with each other.
'Daddy Cool'
Airs Wednesday, September 6 2006 at 14:05 BST on BBC One
The staff swoon over a picture of the new baby, Jimmi tells them about his plans to see his nephew. Will arrives at Jimmi’s flat. Will spends the whole meal on the phone and turns his nose up at most food offered to him.
Will is beginning to annoy Jimmi, Will is unimpressed with Jimmi’s entertainment, and Jimmi tries to start a conversation, he wants to find out why Will wanted to stay and if he has any problems.
Will and Jimmi play battleships and Jimmi keeps trying to find out if there is a problem Will needs to discuss, Will reveals he’s in trouble with a Colleen’s dad because he kissed her and her Dad is angry with him.
Jimmi doesn’t take it seriously because he doesn’t think Jimmi has done anything very wrong, Will explains he is scared of the man and doesn’t want to go home.
Eventually he gets so agitated and starts smashing things, Jimmi loses it at him and doesn’t understand what’s going on. Jimmi apologises to Will, they have a heart to heart.
Meanwhile, Amy and her friends emerge from the house and Amy’s parents harass her about her plans for the evening, eventually they give in and her and her friends go to the pub. Sara and Tony worry because they haven’t heard from their daughter, Sara coerces Tony into going down to the pub and checking up on Amy but he was hoping for a night in with his wife for a change.
Tony arrives at the bar and sees Amy and her friends, they appear to be having fun and everything seems safe enough, Amy is telling her friends a story in an animated style. Tony arrives home and reports back to Sara. In the bar Amy and her mates down their first round of shots. Tony tries to help Sara relax by offering her a drink but she’s very uptight and worried about Amy, Tony thinks they’re too strict. Amy meanwhile is on the dance floor puffing her inhaler and a suspicious character is looming in the background – when she isn’t looking ‘someone’ steals her handbag.
Amy rushes inside the house to find her inhaler, her parents chastise her for not contacting them, she reveals she has had her bag stolen and has been drinking and her mother grounds her abruptly. Sara and Tony argue in the living room about Amy’s grounding, Sara doesn’t want to let her out until she knows ‘everything’, Amy listens at the door.
Tony reveals he isn’t her real Dad. Sara agrees not to tell Amy because Tony doesn’t want to. Amy’s parents come to her bedroom to help her with her asthma attack as her inhaler has run out; she tells them what she heard. Greg arrives to see Amy. Greg tries to make Amy’s breathing regular but she’s determined to find out who her real father is. Sara wants to explain the situation to Amy to calm her down. They try to explain to Amy but the situation becomes tense and Amy gets angry, in frustration Sara explodes and reveals that she ‘was raped’.
Greg rings an ambulance for Amy whilst her mum explains how she was raped; this explains why she was so protective over Amy. Tony returns and finds out Amy knows and is very angry. They all drive to the hospital in the ambulance together.
'Baggage'

Emily and Joe have breakfast, Joe has rearranged the cupboards and Emily is annoyed. Joe is hurrying Emily, he’s dropping her off at college to register before going to work but she’s worried about what to wear.
At the college Joe wants to come in but Emily doesn’t want him cramping her style, she goes in to make an appointment. In reception Donna and Julia chat about patients and diagnosis.
Emily returns with some information and Joe starts quizzing her but she is preoccupied, she is worried about what subjects to choose, they discuss it a little as she is dropped off at home.
Jimmi and Donna chat about the incident with Will last night. George and Joe discuss parenthood. Jimmi meets Kim in the icon bar, they chat about Will. Kim asks how Jimmi’s OCD is and drops the bomb that their Dad is to be married again but Jimmi doesn’t care.
Kim reveals she has been in touch with their father and told them about Jimmi and Amanda’s split. Kim also tells Jimmi about their Dad’s new partner and they she wants them all to meet up, Jimmi is adamant this will never happen.
Jimmi and Kim say farewell and he confirms he will never forgive their father for his abuse of them. George rings Ronnie they chat about Bracken and then she asks Ronnie to take Emily for work experience, they make a deal.
Meanwhile, Mrs Carter unloads her shopping, two boys watch her from the side of the street, she realises she has dropped her purse but it is nowhere to be seen, the boys have gone. Tommy arrives to see Mac and is disappointed to find out he’s left the practice.
Tommy meets his new doctor and tells him his life plan and what he’s visiting for: he wants Nick to edit his medical history so he can definitely get in the army. Tommy bribes Nick but he says no because it’s illegal.
Tommy is angry because he feels he’s being denied the chance, he kicks off at Nick. Later on in reception Nick asks Donna to print Tommy’s notes but they can’t seem to find his file…
At Tommy’s house a PC questions him about a stolen purse when Nick arrives but Tommy is taken away in the police car.
Greg and Nick wait in the police station for Tommy, he will not be charged as there is not enough evidence so they release him, and Nick also tells Greg about the missing file.
Nick accuses Tommy of taking the files and he gets upset and storms off. In reception, Julia finds Tommy’s notes, Nick goes to find Jimmy and apologise.
Tommy is angry but Nick agrees to give medical evidence in favour of him to the army.
'Second Best'

George leaves the house for the day saying goodbye to Bracken and Ronnie. In reception staff find out Greg is ill and won’t be in, Donna thinks it’s a hangover. Opening the post Donna finds a wedding invitation for Jimmi from his father. Jimmi is annoyed as it is a private letter and gets angry with Donna.
George and Joe arrange lunch to discuss Emily’s work experience. George rings home to tell Ronnie that they are to have lunch with Emily and Joe today, he is not pleased. In the staff room Julia and Donna discuss the earlier incident with Jimmi.
At the icon Bar Ronnie is late because Bracken was sleeping, Joe is embarrassing Emily as they wait. Donna apologises to Jimmi about reading the wedding invitation, he treats her very abruptly. They finish lunch at Icon and Ronnie is left holding the baby as the others get back to work.
George and Michelle talk about Amy Brewer. Ronnie rings George to find out where she is. Finally George arrives home and argues with Ronnie. Julia comes in to tell Jimmi they are worried about him.
Meanwhile, Steve offers Amy tea and they get into an argument about going out to dinner and Amy’s general condition. Steve drops Amy off at the Doctors, she goes in to reception.
Ruth is in with George and they discuss Ruth’s health, without warning Ruth breaks down in tears. She is upset about the menopause and wants to arrange HRT, they arrange and app with Michelle. Amy is in with Michelle and they discuss the baby and Amy’s health, she gives Amy some brochures about not drinking and smoking when pregnant and Amy leaves to go shopping.
Ruth goes to find Steve in the park, she wants to talk about Amy but Steve is evasive. Steve tells Ruth he wants to leave and doesn’t want to stay with Amy, he loves Ruth. Amy arrives home with shopping and is sick in the kitchen. Steve arrives home and tells Amy she doesn’t look well, she is sick again and he rings the doctor.
George arrives at Amy and Steve’s and concludes Amy is ill because she has eaten oysters, George asks Amy why Steve believes she is pregnant when she has only just had her coil removed. George says she won’t cover for Amy as it’s immoral to let him believe she is pregnant. She wants to stay with him as she is dependant on him.
Ruth is in with Michelle and she is told she is pregnant and its Steve’s. Steve find out she has lied and confronts her, he gathers his things and leaves her.
Steve comes to Ruth’s house to tell her he’s left Amy because she lied and they agree to be together and are happy.
