A tense, week-long story resulting in hostage taking and a shooting at Letherbridge University is told on BBC One Daytime's award-winning drama Doctors this week. Master Of The Universe tells the story of Lewis Cutler, fellow university student and friend of regular Doctors character Jack Hollins.
This first episode opens with Lewis brandishing a gun in a classroom on campus at Letherbridge University, announcing it's "judgement day". The episode then flashes back to Monday.
At university, Lewis's assignments are causing his tutor, Sia, concern, as all his characters die. She wants to know more about him, and Lewis says he's writing an autobiographical novel which he'll give to her to read.
Meanwhile, Lewis's dad, Gerry, asks Karen if Lewis can stay with them while his halls are closed during the Easter holidays. Gerry, along with Lewis's stepmum and brother Ned, will be away and he doesn't want Lewis alone in the family home. Karen agrees but Jack and Rob aren't happy.
Simon sees Sia about her eczema, which she says is probably due to stress caused by Lewis; she thinks Lewis is disturbed.
Lewis suggests to Jack that they go to his Dad's house to raid the beer fridge, and they collect another student, Ellie, on the way. At the house they wander around, and Lewis shows Jack his father's gun.
Rob arrives at the house as the silent alarm has been triggered and it's revealed Lewis doesn't know the alarm code or have a key. Rob feels sorry for Lewis and so invites him back for tea. Imogen meets Lewis and is immediately suspicious of him and his fascination with her artwork, which depicts people who have been shot dead.
Throughout the week's episodes, more about the hostage situation and events leading up to it are revealed, culminating in Friday's dramatic conclusion.
Master Of The Universe features Alexander Vlahos as Lewis Cutler. Other guest stars include Rebecca Hazlewood as Sia Clemens, Steffan Rhodri as Gerry Cutler, Rebecca Ryan as Ellie McCall and Tom Kane as Ned Cutler. They join regular cast members Jan Pearson as Karen Hollins, Nicolas Woodman as Jack Hollins, Chris Walker as Rob Hollins and Charlie Clemmow as Imogen Hollins.
