this may sounds extermely weird but when did they stop showing films and tv in black and white?

It seems to have been a gradual thing. As far as I can guess (I wasn't around at the time), everything was in colour by about the mid 70s, unless you had a black and white telly.

We had our first colour set in 1972 just in time for the Olympic games of that year...we used to rent then as most people did..not many could afford to buy.

in israel they used to actually erase the colour of the broadcasted programs that were bought from abroad, because they wanted to keep an appearance of equality. only later they realised it only brought wider gaps cause the israeli minds have invented a device that erased the erasing, and THAT was expensive. i think the first colour broadcasting we had in israel was when saadat came to israel and all the peace process started, in 1979. the second colour broadcast was when they actually signed the contract some time later, and only then they started to air a few things like the olimpics, or a few of the greatest entertainment shows. but most of us didn't have a colour set so we had to go to see it with neighbours that got their telly from the usa...
