Here is a thought. 
Caroline should return with Nick's child and Nick's brother is found in her efforts to trace Nick's roots. Nick's brother has dark hair and wears glasses. He falls for Caroline and moves to Leatherbridge. He is a surgeon at the hospital but works at The Mill with addicts at the drop in Clinic. In his work with addicts he gets involved with the underworld of Birmingham and has a Mexican stand off with local drug lords after they have kidknapped Caroline and his brother's child. Will he fire the hand gun and take a life? Will he save his brother's two year old? Will Caroline love him like Nick? ;D ;D ;D
