I'm not surprised about any of them. Its been a bad year for exits and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if more left.

I agree Katrina the first two aren't very surprising given what we already knew. The third is a bit of a shock but the character is rather underused and I assume the actor wishes to move on to other things. I guess we can look forward to more new faces quite soon then. I for one am looking forward to it

I thought with the return of Harrison that it would probably spell the end for Elaine. I'm guessing we'll only really get one new character to replace Elaine as Immie and Jack don't really need replacements - in terms of the surgery at least.

Re-reading Peter Lloyd's comments from the DS interview I think we may be getting several new characters coming in sooner or later.... (my highlights)
With a handful of cast departures this year, can the viewers expect an influx of new characters in the coming months? Are there any types of characters you feel the show currently lacks that you would like to bring in?
"This is quite a tricky year for us, with so many going. But it happens every few years and though you mourn the characters you've lost, you learn to accept it, move on, and look for new opportunities. So we've got a new kind of family arriving, a young female doctor (Jas?) and some other surprises.
"We're also looking at a doctor who maybe cares a little less than the others, and sets a bad example for his patients. Maybe not as dark as the dreadful Charlie, but someone who may not be everyone's favourite. He's still being formed, but the writers are enjoying working on him and he could be quite something."
