Such a sad episode. Valerie worked so hard at her party and it was such a flop. The mother mourning her lost son(havent we seen that storyline before?) Franklyn can be funny but so juvenile most of the time. Loved the comments about Howard`s costume " Are you Ghandi or the statue of Liberty" They really needed Karen there to liven things up. It was certainly the night of the living dead!

I've said this before, but I think Valerie is a character from a Mike Leigh film - a sad, lost soul, halfway between comedy and tragedy. I thought the scene where she tried to seduce Barry (dressed as Satan!) was hilarious, but there were other times I wanted to smash through the TV screen and rescue her. And it looks like she's doing it all over again on Guy Fawkes Night...
And yes, I think they do the mother mourning her lost son about once a week! Though at least they've moved away from stories where the central character turns out to be a ghost - although the other day, it turned out someone was a character in a book, being hallucinated by the author. Though I've given up wondering if we've seen this story before: when a programme is on 5 days a week, of course there will be a lot of repitition, and so long as the episode's fun, I just enjoy the ride.
