Why is Sam usually shown in bed with people running around after him?. Today he is at the table having a glass of wine . If he does that why isn't he doing something useful . He was a lecturer, and I am sure he could still do some teaching , or am I being stupid!

I have been wondering exactly the same thing. He is not just sitting up on a chair ( maybe tiny wheel chair ?) in the kitchen without any visible means of support. It does not make sense going on his previous comments in episodes about having to lie in bed all day and only having the window and the changing seasons for a diversion. It's just another one of those things that get thrown into Doctors that ignore the previous episodes. Also why are all the doctors such nut cases ? None of them seem to be able to cope with any type of adversity without going to bits. Right now, Emma is in need of a slap. Sure, her husband is ill and she's torn between him and Howard. She has this mournful face on her all the time and then turns around and tries to get Heston to divulge information that she agreed she wouldn't seek if he took Sam on as a patient.
