Oh my gawd but it was another dream infected episode of Doctors. I recorded it but deleted it after ten minutes. Do the script writers want to have Doctors pulled ??

I rather enjoyed this. It wasn't a dream episode as such - the old woman bumped into Mandy in a cafe, and was instantly reminded of her lover of 60 years ago - and we then saw flashbacks of her old relationship with this woman, and how it reached a tragic conclusion. Meanwhile in the present day, the old woman persuaded Mandy not to dwell on her grief for Freya, and Mandy persuaded her to celebrate the love she once had, and to wear nice shoes, and to open up a little. But (in a slightly melodramatic twist), in putting on the fancy shoes, the old woman has a fall and dies...but it turns out to be a happy ending, because she's united with her lover in the afterlife, having left her waiting for over 50 years...
Where it went wrong for me - I found Mandy's Jamaican accent (when she played the lover in the flashbacks) a bit peculiar. It was probably perfectly accurate, and maybe it's just because I'm used to hearing her as a Mancunian...but every time she opened her mouth, I thought: what's that weird noise?
Also, the history seemed a bit wonky. So the husband got a private detective to follow his wife, found out she was a lesbian, and threatened to have her incarcerated in a padded cell for the rest of her days? That really is a very peculiar scenario - and I'm friendly with quite a few older lesbians, who have often described their struggles in the post-war years...but no-one ever got locked up for life in a psychiatric hospital for lesbianism, and the whole thing about private detectives really seemed to take us into film noir / Raymond Chandler territory. The one threat which was always used is that if you were outed as a lesbian, you would lose your job, the support of your family, and the custody of your children....and I'm really surprised that there was only the briefest mention of this woman having kids, as that would surely be the real threat, and the power the husband would have. Plus, it's quite an interesting story if this woman is torn between her sense of duty (to her kids) and her heart (to this other woman). So I'm afraid, even though I got quite caught up in the story, there were several times I was scratching my head, and saying: "Eh?"
But...I still think it was a very brave idea, and I don't think it's an attempt to kill off 'Doctors', but an attempt to try something different which will probably only appeal to a minority. I wouldn't want this kind of episode more than once a month, but one of the reasons I stick with 'Doctors' is it does provide these brave, strange, adventurous stories that you just wouldn't get anywhere else.

I agree it was a brave idea , and it did show how ideas have changed , although it wasn't the same for women as for men in a similar situation. I am sure she wouldn't have been incarcerated for being a lesbian, but he may have invented something that may have resulted in that . However, what spoiled it for me ,was that it was a 'Mandeh' story. I really can't take her storylines seriously.
I stick with Doctors, as characters I don't like ( I have been watching since episode 1) do move on evenually, just some take longer than others (Julia),

I don't think this episode quite lived up to Danielle Henry's digital spy interview about it but I thought it was an interesting episode and showed how times and attitudes have changed and I love that Doctors do episodes that utilise different styles.
I also think it's interesting that the Danielle interview mentions that the episode was originally pitched with another character in mind (but Peter Eryl Lloyd pushed for Mandy). I'm very curious as to who that would have been and how that may have changed the episode.

Why does Doctors dip into the realms of dreams and fantasy? No other soap offers such storylines. They sometimes border on the absurd, even though the facts themselves are not unrealistic.Mandy`s accent was hilarious and,at least,,no chickens declared themselves gay!The soap needs a major actor/actress to come in on a permanent basis to give it more umph and just stick to storylines where the characters are permanently awake.
