Saw Al in a different light today! Yes he can be rude and abrupt but he realised he made a mistake and set it right. I think he will make a decent doctor he just needs to sort his attitude out!

Al has a dreadful attitude , so rude and falling asleep whilst a patient(or the wife) was speaking is unforgivable . Daniel was lovely today

I actually warmed to Al in this episode, and I was certainly impressed with his bedroom, which was a treasure trove of cult TV and scif-fi memorabilia from the 70s and 80s...
He doesn't have any people skills, but he does (apparently) have a brilliant mind and is working on these life-changing medical inventions. Hence he's falling asleep during consultations. But he saved the day in the end, and clearly regretted not diagnosing the problem sooner.
However, I'm still intrigued that he doesn't appear in the opening credits: is he going to be one of these characters who's only in it for a few months before meeting some unpleasant and sticky end? I hope note - I think he's an interesting character (though I'd absolutely hate him to be my doctor).
