Helen is strong and confident, though sometimes she finds it hard to show her feelings. She is also an extremely capable doctor and well liked by her patients and colleagues.
She has two children, Daniel and Claire, and was widowed in 2002 when her husband Phil was killed in a car crash. At the time Helen was wracked with guilt because during the accident she was in bed with Marc. But she was later shocked to discover that Phil had a secret second family
After Phil's death Helen found it hard to speak to Marc, but they re-built their friendship and there might even still be a spark!
She was at university with George and dated Ronnie before he married George. This little love triangle can sometimes cause tension between the two women.

(This needs updating a bit, too!)
In September 2002 Helen agreed to set up a new practice with Marc. Some awkwardness was caused when George joined the team, due to the history between her, Helen and Ronnie. However, the "love triangle" between Helen, George and Ronnie doesn't seem to have been causing much in the way of tension for some time and, nowadays, Helen seems to feel that being friends with the couple is more important than holding a grudge.
Helen's relationship with Marc has also been developing, since Phil's death; with the sexual tension between them being fairly obvious at times. Helen was extremely supportive when Marc was wrongly imprisoned for rape in April 2003, going out of her way to find the evidence that would clear him. After Marc's release, he tried to persuade Helen to start a relationship with him but she refused, saying that they were better off just being friends. Their friendship was soon back on track and, in October 2003, they went to the Medics' Ball together. Whilst there Helen was quick to jump in when a nosy guest tried to interrogate Marc over his recent ordeal.
Helen and Marc's relationship had still failed to develop any further, when, in February 2004, Helen was head-hunted for a job in Australia. Despite Marc's efforts to persuade her to change her mind, she felt that she had nothing to stay for. As it happened, though, George (who had put herself forward for the job) went instead. Helen then became attracted to George's replacement, Mike but he two-timed her with Kate. Although Helen was angry to start with, she decided not to let it ruin her friendship with Kate.
In May 2004 Helen lost two old friends. She was extremely upset by this and was touched when Marc told her that he loved her (again). They began a passionate (but short-lived) affair. When Marc was offered a job in Kosovo, by his brother, Helen felt that she did not have enough to offer him and that her feelings were not strong enough to ask him to stay. She tried to persuade him to take the job but he took it as a rejection and stormed out of her life.

(As I was saying...)
Following Marc's departure, Helen continued as senior partner at Best. Her initial concern was that the practice was under-staffed. However, George's return from Australia (in September 2004) and the arrival of a new locum, Harry, helped to ease the burden.
During this period Helen reached an all-time-low, romantically. She became extremely lonely and the fact that everyone at work forgot her birthday that year only increased her awareness of this fact. In November 2004, Helen's fortunes changed when a new locum (Jack) arrived at Riverside. He was immediately attracted to Helen and was keen to start a relationship with her, although she took a while to convince.

(The saga continues...!)
In December 2004, the doctors from Riverside and Best put in a bid for a super practice. That month Jack took Helen to the Ice Hotel in Sweden and the following January he transferred to Best. Their relationship had its ups and downs, mainly due to Jack's ex, Ria, not wanting to let him spend time with his kids, while he was going out with Helen. (Although they were divorced she still didn't like him seeing other women). In February 2005, Jack asked Helen to marry him and, after consulting her kids, Helen said yes! Ria was incensed by this and consumed with jelousy. She went out of her way to be abusive to the couple, even barging into a romantic dinner to slap Helen. In March 2005, Ria set fire to Riverside, while Helen and Jack were inside. They survived but when Jack confronted Ria about the fire, in April, she pushed him down some stairs and he later died.

(The continuing adventures... blah... blah... et cetera...)
Following Jack's death, Helen tried to keep her spirits up with a bit of retail therapy. This didn't stop her from becoming extremely depressed and in June 2005 she ended up in therapy. By September, however, she was back on her feet and back at work.
In November 2005, Helen's life was set for another upheaval. She was offered a job in Leeds, just as Marc returned to Letherbridge! Although Helen was uneasy at first, it wasn't long before she and Marc were, once again, getting on like a house on fire. Realising that she still loved Marc and wanted him back, Helen turned down the Leeds job, in the hope that they could patch things up. She then discovered that Marc was engaged and (unable to face seeing the man she loved being happy with another woman) decided to accept the job. In December, shortly before she was due to leave Letherbridge, Helen discovered that Marc's engagement was over. After some insistence from George, she told Marc that she loved him and asked him to move to Leeds with her and the kid's. He refused, accusing Helen of treating him as "a last resort" and all seemed lost. Shortly afterwards, however, Marc swept Helen off her feet at the Mill's Christmas bash. He asked her to ask him to Leeds again and this time he said yes! When last heard of, the couple were busy living happily ever after.
THE END.
P.S. Hope they come back so we can see their relationship develop further. Maybe, if we're lucky, they'll decide Leeds isn't their cup of tea or perhaps they'll come back to give Julia some moral support, after her break-up with Mac. In the meantime we can but dream.

Incidentally, does anyone have any idea how old Helen's kids are meant to be? Personally, I'd put Dan at around nine or ten and Claire a couple of years younger. Can anyone be more definite?

From what i've worked out - in 2005 Claire was 8 and Dan was 11. The reason I say this is in an episode which aired in 2000 (and was recently showed on Uk Gold) Helen said that Claire was 3 and Dan was 6
