sean gleeson's accent

I don't know if this is a really obvious question..but something that has really been bugging me recently when I've watched and I can't seem to find it out anywhere..but does sean gleeson naturally speak with an irish accent? cos i know he played an irish character in eastenders.. and recently in episodes i keep hearing bits of his accent that don't really sound english..he seems to go to a bit of an irish accent! just wondering if anyone else noticed or knew!
