Weren't there two nurses at the start? The other one was called Anouska (or something like that) and had an affair with Steve.

That's right Pam. She was only in the first series. At the end of the series, she found out she was pregnant, and wasn't certain if the baby was Steve's or Rana's (who she had a one night stand with). She told Steve she was pregnant and they decided to tell everyone else about their relationship.
But then she was never in it again, and no-one ever mentioned why she left or even spoke about her ever again!

Didn't Steve's wife die and Anouska thought that meant they could be together but Steve said no - or something like that!

Yep! That was right at the start of the series. Steve and Anouska were having an affair before Steve's wife died. After she died, Steve didn't want anything to do with Anouska, because he felt guilty, as he had been with her when his wife was killed. But after a while they got back together (which was after Anouska's one night stand with Rana).
